On 10/05/2024, the faculty of Law of the Woman Online University hosted an Academic webinar with over 700 participants. The webinar aimed to explore the “Principle of Legality of Crime and Punishment in Criminal Justice.”
Opening Remarks:
The webinar began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Ms. Zohra Mirzad. Then, the successful program anouncers, Najma Samakani and Khalida Amarkhil, introduced the university. Professor Abdul Farid Salangi, the chancellor and founder of the university, welcomed the guests and provided an introduction to the webinar’s topic, continuing the program.
Biography Video:
The university’s media team presented a biography video introducing Dr. Mohammad Zarif Alam Stanakzai the webinar’s main speaker.
Main Speaker’s Presentation:
Dr. Alam Stanakzai addressed the analysis and interpretation of the principle of legality of crime and punishment, emphasizing its importance in criminal justice. He emphasized that no act can be considered a crime and no punishment can be imposed unless it is legally defined and prescribed. The principles discussed were as follows:
1. Definition of the Crime: A crime must be precisely and clearly defined in the law.
2. Determination of Punishment: Punishments must be legally specified and proportionate to the crime.
3. Prosecution of the Accused: The process of prosecution and investigation must be conducted according to existing laws.
4. Issuance of the Criminal Judgments: Courts must issue judgments based on laws and with respect to the principles of fair trial.
5. Execution of Punishment: The execution of punishments must be in accordance with specific laws and without discrimination.
These principles are established to ensure justice and prevent judicial and executive abuses and are consistent with religious and jurisprudential principles.
Question and Answer Session:
In the question and answer segment, Professor Bahara Ataei collected questions from the guests and students, and Dr. Alam Stanakzai provided Academic answers to them.
Closing and Conclusion:
Finally, Dr. Sohaila Erfani, the academic deputy of the university, summarized the topics discussed and expressed gratitude to the students, professors, and scholarly figures for their presence in the webinar.
