Organizer: The Faculty of Theraputic Medicine, Woman Online University;
Platform: Google Meet
An academic webinar titled “Respiratory Insufficiency” was held on 1/03/2024 by the faculty of Therapeutic Medicine of the Woman Online University. At the beginning, Ms. Adela Zamani, the Deputy-chancellor of Student Affairs at Woman Online University, welcomed the distinguished guests, including:
– Dr. Professor Mohammad Akram “Baburi”, Associate- Director of Jamaica Medical Center, New York.
– Dr. Sharifullah “Farkhani”, Head of the Faculty of Medicine, Paktia University.
– Dr. Sayed Wahidullah “Sadat”, Head of Therapeutic Medicine, Woman Online University.
– Heads of the fifteen departments of Woman Online University, medical students, and students from other faculties.
Considering the importance of webinars in the academic and educational community, the webinar was deemed significant and effective in the field of advanced medicine. She expressed that this unique opportunity is great for medical students and enthusiasts in order to learn and enhance their knowledge. It is hoped that this webinar will be an exceptional and beneficial experience for all participants.
Then, Dr. Professor Mohammad Akram “Baburi”, Associate-Director of Jamaica Medical Center, New York, provided information about the topic of the webinar:
1. Respiratory Failure:
Respiratory failure refers to the inability of the respiratory system to transfer oxygen to the blood and/or remove carbon dioxide from the blood.
2. Types of Respiratory Failure:
In this section, different types of respiratory failure were discussed. These types may include hypoxemic respiratory failure, hypercapnic respiratory failure, and mixed respiratory failure.
3. Respiratory Insufficiency:
Respiratory insufficiency refers to the inability of the respiratory system to meet the body’s oxygen and carbon dioxide needs.
4. Mechanism of Hypoxemia:
The mechanisms of hypoxemia, which is a decrease in the level of the oxygen of the blood, were explained. These mechanisms include oxygen supply impairment, gas exchange problems in the lungs, and issues with oxygen transport in the blood.
5. Mechanism of Hypoxia:
The mechanisms of hypoxia, which is a decrease in oxygen levels in body cells, were discussed. These mechanisms include a decrease in the respiratory system’s ability to absorb oxygen, a decrease in the blood’s ability to carry oxygen, and difficulties in oxygen utilization by body tissues.
6. Mechanism of Hypercapnia:
The mechanisms of hypercapnia, which is an increase in blood carbon dioxide levels, were addressed. These mechanisms include a decrease in the respiratory system’s ability to remove carbon dioxide from the blood.
7. Acute on Chronic Respiratory Failure:
Acute on chronic respiratory failure was explained, emphasizing that acute respiratory failure refers to the worsening of respiratory failure symptoms in individuals who already had chronic respiratory failure.
These information greatly contributed to the participants’ understanding of respiratory insufficiency and its related factors.

Finally, the webinar was concluded by Dr. Sharifullah “Farkhani”, the Head of the Faculty of Medicine, Paktia University. He expressed hope for the education of women and the opening the doors of universities for them, especially in the field of medical studies.
