The annual conference on the topic of “Women, Peace and Development in Afghanistan”, organized on the initiative of the Rahila Trust Office for Girls’ Education in London, provided an opportunity for the exchange of views and collective thinking on issues related to the rights and education of women in Afghanistan. This conference was held in London on 24/05 2024 with the participation of international organizations advocating for women’s rights, human rights and women’s rights activists, and education rights activists, both in-person and online.
The administrative board of the Woman Online University, along with ten of the university’s students whose educational expenses are covered by the Rahila Trust, and thirty-five other students who hold administrative responsibilities at the university and whose internet access is provided by the Rahila trust foundation, participated in this conference.
Professor Abdul Farid Salangi, the chancellor and founder of the Woman Online University, in a statement emphasized the right to education for women and the importance of women’s literacy in society, and introduced the activities and achievements of the university over the past year to the participants. He noted that Woman Online University, has provided the opportunity for free higher education in various fields for more than 14,000 girls who were deprived of education, and as the first online university in Afghanistan, it was established one week after the closure of Afghanistan’s in-person universities, and has institutionalized distance online education in Afghanistan.
At the end of the conference, Professor Salangi thanked the “Rahila Trust for Girls’ Education” for its assistance and cooperation with the girls deprived of education, and called for greater cooperation from international organizations to facilitate the education of Afghan girls. This conference also included other speakers from international organizations, legal personalities, education rights activists, and messages from three students representing the students of the Woman Online University
